HISTORY OF FACT, INC (Focus And Cultural Transition)

If my mind can conceive it, and my heart can believe it, I know I can achieve it.

With this motto in 1986, Ms. Betty King had a vision of making a conscious effort to remember Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. for setting the stage for many privileges and rights that we as a people enjoy today.

Although Dr. King’s service is celebrated annually, and in its own right, Ms. King felt that the scope was limited. She contacted a few close friends to discuss her dream. Lest we forget, Ms. King’s revelation was that the evening should be informative, educational and fun. Friends Are Celebrating Together (FACT) was born and celebrated in Ms. King’s home. This event, with its humble beginnings, became an annual one and grew from Ms. King’s home to full service hotels.

In 2001, FACT, a non-profit organization, was incorporated by the state of Georgia and is now known as Focus and Cultural Transition. FACT is committed to promoting our values as a people, while unveiling our history as achievers, positive contributors and a valuable force in our society. FACT wants to ensure that our rich history is not lost and forgotten. Throughout the years, FACT sponsors trips to places that commemorate our history, such as the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute. FACT also participates with Atlanta area schools in celebrating Black History, sponsoring funding for educational projects for adolescents, providing food baskets and clothing to needy families during the holidays and providing financial assistance to area homeless shelters.

Let us continue to support Ms. Betty King and FACT in celebrating our history, our heritage. We must be ever mindful to place our emphasis on Dr. King’s dream, and making it a reality by helping our community.

We thank you and enjoy our site.
